Bicycle Talents

Bicycle Talents

A friend loaned me his bike for the winter. He is on a lengthy trip out of state. I found the parable parallels out of Matthew 25 interesting... The Kingdom of God is like a man going on a journey who entrusted his property to his servants. I realized this week that my friend Harold has entrusted his property to me, so I should make wise use of it while I have it. So, Harold, here is my mid-winter report.
When I received the bike on November 2, there were about 700 miles on it. So far I have added over 700 more. I have ridden every day that I have worked except a few icy days in December. I have increased my average riding speed by about 3 miles per hour thanks to the fancy speedometer I use to challenge and race against myself. I have traded many mind numbing commute hours for exhilarating rides during which I try to think and pray as I also improve my health. Thank you for the use of your bike.
Jesus says this is what the God's Kingdom is like. He gives talents in portions - 5, 3, 1. No matter what you have been given, God wants you to use it. What has God entrusted you with this semester? Don't bury it. Timidity and fear is not an option. When the master returns, I definitely want to be one of the ones who hears these words, "Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!"
